Doctrinal Statement: Salvation

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.

  1. Salvation is not of works.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.

Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ.

Salvation is not by baptism

Mark 16:16- He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Salvation is not by repenting of sin

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Picture a man drowning in the middle of the ocean. He can’t swim to shore—he’s too far out. Throwing him a manual on swimming techniques won’t save him. He needs a rescuer. Salvation isn’t about what we can do; it’s about what Christ has done for us.
